Soft Geometry

A catalog that behaves like a showroom: one piece on screen at a time, with room around it.

The concept, live

Fig. 01

The page itself, not a picture of it. Use it here, then scroll inside the frame.

The one idea

Furniture is bought with the eyes and justified with the specs. A shop grid gets that backwards, so this catalog gives every piece a full screen, puts the material and the dimensions before the price, and leaves checkout to the platform the brand already pays for.

The budget we’d hold it to

Load on a mid-range phone

The budget it was designed to. A study has no traffic of its own, so these are targets; this site’s own numbers are measured on every build.

How it was decided

  1. 01

    The catalog

    Considered

A shop grid with filters and prices on every card.

    Kept

One piece per screen, material and dimensions first. The price is one tap further, on the page that sells it.

  2. 02

    The pictures

    Considered

Product photography in a lifestyle set.

    Kept

Flat drawings in four soft shapes. They load in a few kilobytes and read at any size, and the forms are the brand.

  3. 03

    The checkout

    Considered

A custom cart and checkout built into the site.

    Kept

Checkout stays on the platform the brand already pays for. The site’s job ends at the decision.

The same section as its first sketch: the layout in pencil lines on paper, the headings drawn as outlines, the text as gray bars.
The concept’s collection section on paper: the heading "Collection" above flat furniture silhouettes drawn in simple shapes, each with its label.

Fig. 02

The collection is four columns of flat silhouettes: shape and material first, the rest on the product page.

A close typographic crop on paper: the word "Soft" in near-black running off the frame, overlapping a large sage disc and a thin outlined circle.

The forms are drawn, not photographed, so the page stays under a phone’s budget at any screen size.

One piece to a screen: the Arc chair drawn large on paper, a sage arched back on a black rounded seat, and beside it its name, a line of copy and a ruled list of seat height, width, frame, cover and, last, the price.

One piece to a screen, the way a showroom shows a chair: what it is made of and how big it is first, the price last.
